Senior Tax Accountant – State and Local Taxes

The Senior Tax Accountant assists the Senior Manager, State & Local Taxes in the area of state & local income, franchise, sales & use, and property tax compliance, research and planning. The Senior Tax Accountant also assists as necessary in federal tax administration projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reviews monthly sales and use tax returns prepared by the accounts payable department.
Assists in the monthly sales tax data information gathering and analysis from business divisions.
Prepares monthly sales & use tax journal entries based on documentation provided by the accounts payable department and reconciles state vendor payable accounts.
Resolves state sales tax issues for both internal personnel and external tax authorities, and acts as liaison between the business divisions and IT on these issues.
Computes estimated state income/franchise tax payments, minimizing cash flow by taking advantage of ?safe harbors?.
Calculates state income/franchise apportionment factors.
Prepares selected separate company and unitary state corporate income and franchise tax returns using InSource Express tax return preparation software.
Assists in the preparation of the quarterly and year-end income tax provisions in accordance with FAS 109.
Monitors the state tax calendar and ensures that all state related compliance is filed on a timely basis.
Assists Senior Manager, State & Local Tax in both income/franchise tax and sales and use tax audit documentation gathering and other projects including federal related projects as needed.
Prepares all personal and real property and miscellaneous tax returns and licenses.
Completes WA High Technology Sales Tax Deferral application requests and monitors project status.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:
Undergraduate degree in accounting or finance is required. Candidates must have a master?s degree in taxation or be actively pursing one.
5-7 years of accounting and tax related business experience in a multi-state corporation.
Must possess excellent PC skills including word processing and spreadsheet software, and tax return preparation packages, such as, Vertex Quantum for Sales and Use Tax, InSource Express, and tax research software such as RIA Checkpoint.
Experience with SAP is also desirable.
Excellent oral and written communications skills are also required.
Physical Demands: Normal office work

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Bookkeeping, recording transactions & basic Financial Statement Preparation
Monthly bank reconciliations & daily cash balance reports
Monthly actual vs. budget reports
Monthly billing statement including markup
Bill payments
Business tax preparation & payments
Business license renewal
Submit audit documentation to local government branches
Interface with external financial statement auditors
Communication with U.S. Office
Staff scheduling/tracking of hours worked by lab employees and report to payroll service (CIIC)
Education and/or Experience:
Accounting Degree
Experience with U.S. Company is a plus
Must be bilingual in English/Chinese (Mandarin)
